Last week I was on holiday in Prague, mainly to meet my family there. It was a nice week, although Kreslice (where we stayed) was a bit too far from the centre and the weather was not that nice (the first day was about 30 degrees, but after that it became colder and it started to rain).

But anyway, I was both happy to see my family again, and to relax for a week after 7 exhausting weeks of working hard combined with moving to my new apartment (as of this week, I just have to work hard again :)).

Almost a year after I blogged about my fourth birthday of my old camera, I bought a new one: a Canon 350D.

What a nice camera it is! The difference between a compact camera and a SLR is huge. The speed, the non existing shutter lag, the control, the range of the lens (ok, this is more a comparison of the lens and a compact camera), the feel, the … everything.

It has been a while since I posted on the blog, and with good reason. I was very busy moving to my new home. Two weeks ago I finally stayed here for the first time overnight, and since then I’m completely moved.

I’m still unpacking everything and trying to give everything it’s own place (never knew that I could collect that much stuff in just over a year…), so the house will be a mess the next couple of weeks. But I’m more than happy with it!

Na de wel-foute-maar-stiekem-toch-wel-leuke cheerleader smiley () ben ik vandaag de eigenlijk-best-wel-flauwe Spongebob versie tegengekomen:

Zaterdag en gisteren in totaal 13 minuten met de service desk van de ABN AMRO gebeld om te achterhalen wat de kosten zijn van een bankgarantie. De 5e persoon waarnaar ik doorverbonden werd wist het uiteindelijk: 45 euro + 2% van het bedrag per jaar met een minimum van 50 euro ofzo. Eigenlijk wist ik na die 45 euro al wel genoeg, dus het is mogelijk dat dat laatste gedeelte niet helemaal klopt.

Eens in de paar weken staat er in de Intermediair een Japanse Puzzel. Altijd wel leuk om op te lossen. Op zich, met een beetje logisch nadenken lukt me dat meestal ook wel zonder al te veel problemen. Maar dan begint het echte puzzelwerk pas: om de oplossing in te sturen moet je een omschrijving insturen van wat je ziet. En dat is nog niet zo makkelijker….

Zou het een hond zijn?

I was just browsing around a bit, and on one page I noticed something weird: an ad.

Not that noticing an ad is weird, but the content was. Well, maybe not even the content, but the link beneath the ad. It was a link to a Google search… I’m curious who placed the ad (Google itself?), and I’m even more curious why? It completely makes no sense to me. But maybe it’s just me…

Ongeveer een kwartier geleden is het dan gebeurd: ik heb de koopacte ondertekend, en vanaf nu ben ik over een tijdje dus definitief² eigenaar van een woning!

Vanavond de hele avond bezig geweest met het scannen van de complete koopacte (moeten dat nou echt 135 pagina’s zijn?…), het twee keer lezen van alles, en ook met het zetten van 134 paraafjes. En uiteindelijk het zetten van de drie handtekeningen. Hoewel dat laatste eigenlijk het minste werk was.

Zef talks about the difference between webapps and ‘normal’ apps. One interesting statement that he makes:

They have stored your data more redundantly and safely than you’ll ever be able to (within reason). Having lost my e-mails and data by a hard-disk crash (or faulty Linux installation) several times, I no longer trust singular storage of data. Companies like Google have these facilities.

Personally, I’d prefer to store important data such as mail myself. Although it is true that a company such as Google will probably make better backups than I, I prefer to make my own backups… In that way, I’m the one to blame when something terribly goes wrong.
